Gum Leaf Notes No. 125

Gum Leaf Notes

How y' going folks,

Don't know where to start. So much has happened in the past few months. We've been to Uluru for a corporate function, Japan for a short break arriving back in Sydney to launch 'The Men of League' song that same night at their dinner, followed by appearing on Channel 9s 'The Footy Show' and the League grand final all in that week.

Days later we were off to Washington DC for the Defence Materiel Organisation of the Embassy of Australia. I performed with just my guitar and a lump of wood for a stomp box. There were about 300 people in monkey suits, roughly 60% Americans and 40% Aussies, the latter naturally had tears running down their faces. (I don't know how any Aussie could be away from Australia for years. I couldn't do it.) I think my stories got through to the others; especially 'Prettiest Girl in The Kimberley' and 'Cydi'. The sound guy said to me beforehand, 'These guys are really hard to perform to'. But it's all about engaging the audience. It was a wonderful night. Washington? Wow! A capital designed to make Americans proud: amazing museums and monuments. The Wallabies were playing South Africa that night so the Army Brass donned their civvies after the dinner and we had a great time at an Irish pub with them, surrounded by South Africans. We won! Heh, heh. Just as well as it was a VERY late night!

A little over a week after getting back from the States we joined the Country Music Cruise on the ship 'Rhapsody of the Seas' in Noumea. Two and a half thousand Country Music fans had a ball. The theatre held 1000. I did two shows on the one night, then a final concert with Beccy Cole, Adam Harvey, Gina Jefferies, Catherine Britt, Stuey and Camille etc. It was such a success it will happen more often. Poor Col Watson, my guitarist, missed the trip thanks to the Qantas grounding debacle. The French Isle of Pines was like something out of the musical 'South Pacific'; truly magical.

My new album (all new songs) will be released on the Australia Day weekend. It's called 'THE BIG RED' after a song I've had tucked away for yonks. More about that later.

Fearless!

Well, folks, from all of us here at Fair dinkum Road Co we wish you a safe and happy Christmas with family and friends. Thanks for your wonderful support in 2011 and we'll see you along the road of song in 2012

See you along the road of song...
